To know Mother Nature, is to love her smallest creations
— Takashi Amano

The first thing that must be considered is the location of the aquarium, the technical equipment, the materials for decoration and last but not least the size of the aquarium.
An adequate size of an aquarium is a minimum of 60l. The larger the aquarium, the more stable the ecosystem - and the selection of fishes and plants will increase.
Of course, nano aquariums can also be kept with great success. These are often associated with more intensive care and are more vulnerable to fluctuating water parameters.

After having decided on the appropriate equipment and considered the layout, the aquascaping, more precisely the hardscaping, can start.
Stones and roots are placed in an aesthetical composition and the substrate is introduced wherever desired. Important to consider are materials that ensure long and healthy plant growth, avoid clouding the water column and provide a natural impression which provides an appropriate habitat for fishes.

After a successful hardscape, the plants can be introduced to prevent a strong algaeboom. There is a good choice of plants in pots and so-called in-vitro plants that are grown in laboratories and come snail-, algae- and pest-free: The perfect condition for a successful start.

When the aquarium has been planted and all equipment has been installed, the aquarium can be filled up with water.
Whether one chooses to make use of a reverse osmosis system or prefers tap water is left to oneself. You will receive advice on what will be best in your case.

What makes a successful aquascape with a long-term enjoyment is the regular care and maintenance. After a few weeks, the first animals can be introduced and the pleasure of a piece of nature can be fully enjoyed!
